From Twiford Funeral Home Winston Winkie Sprague Silver, 74, of Wanchese, NC passed on Saturday, September 10, 2022. Winkie was born on March 5, 1948, in Raleigh, NC to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hinton Silver. He graduated from Broughton High School and attended The Citadel. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wood Foreman Silver; his four children and seven grandchildren: Winston Beau Wood Silver (Brimage), and their son, Beau Hunter Outlaw Silver; Mollie Elizabeth Silver (Billy), and their sons, Wilber and Charles Winston Brown; Dillon Silver Ray (Alan), and their daughters, Hillard and Wimberly Ray; and John Duncan Hinton Silver (Alice), and their sons, John Sprague and Hinton Silver. Also surviving, are his brothers, Charles Silver and John Silver and their families, his aunt Elizabeth Cheshire and her family and his cousin Rodasi Ishaya. There is not enough paper in the world to hold the stories of Winkie Silver, especially since there were so many versions of them. Winkie lived in one lifetime what others could not accomplish in ten lifetimes. He was a man of honor and dignity who taught others so much. His light and love will continue to shine through all still here. There are more stories to be shared and in the words of Winkie One day I ll tell you about it. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 3:30 pm. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall. Private interment will be held at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, NC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrew s By-the-Sea, Disabled American Veterans, or to one s favorite charity.
