George Robinson Wise, Jr., 66, of Columbia, died Saturday, September 20, 2014. Born June 25, 1948 in Charlotte, NC, he was a son of the late George Robinson Wise, Sr. and Hazel Owen Wise. He was a 1970 graduate of The Citadel.

A former Deacon at Northeast Presbyterian Church. George loved the Lord and his family. He greatly enjoyed playing golf with friends, Gamecock football, as well as his work as a certified public accountant. George was deeply involved in the Columbia community and served as President of the Central South Carolina Better Business Bureau, Treasurer of the Columbia Country Club, Treasurer of the Columbia Touchdown Club, and was a past President of the North Lake Sertoma Club. He had a contagious laugh and a kind, gentle soul, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

George is survived by a son, George Robinson Wise, III; daughter, Brittany Owen (Chad); his mother, Hazel Owen Wise; sister, Jeannette Johnson (Scott); as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Heyward Wise.

A funeral service will be held at 12 o'clock Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Northeast Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. George D. Crow III officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 11 o'clock. Memorials may be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223.

Editor's Note: George was a Business Administration major, a cadet Cpl, S/Sgt, and 1stLt. He was first a proud member of "O" Company. In his Junior year, George transferred to "I" Company with his good friend and room-mate, Billy Williams, to help fill their depleted ranks. He was a member of the Rod and Gun Club and participated in intramurals for all four years.
