Charles Rome "Corky" Hansen

Corky was born on September 13th, 1947, in Madison, South Dakota to Charles Herbert Hansen and Madelyn Irene Clark Hansen. Corky spent the first few years of elementary school in North Carolina before moving to Atlanta. He graduated from Sandy Springs High School in 1966 and from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina in 1970. Corky was a man of honor and integrity who cherished his ties to The Citadel throughout his lifetime.

Upon graduation, Corky served in the United States Air Force until November of 1977. He married his wife Nancy in 1978 and then began a career in software sales with McDonnell Douglas. He would continue to work in sales until his retirement. Corky loved to share a good story and engage in conversation wherever he went.

Corky appreciated all genres of music and was an accomplished cello player in high school. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing many courses in the United States and abroad. After retiring, he became an enthusiastic photographer who enjoyed traveling and exploring with Nancy to find the perfect spot for a photograph. He loved sharing the beauty and charm of the Lowcountry with his family. Corky loved books and was a voracious reader. He enjoyed making and eating all types of food and loved to share his time in the kitchen with his grandchildren.

Corky cherished his family as a husband, father, and granddad. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Kay Wagner, his daughter Jennifer Hansen Owens of Milton, Georgia, his son Eric Charles Hansen of Pebble Beach, California, grandchildren Isabella Reese Owens and Sophia Marie Owens of Milton, Georgia and other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Herbert Hansen and Madelyn Irene Clark Hansen.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 20th at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Nebraska at a later date.

Editor's Note:Corky was a proud member of "L" Company- a Corporal and Sergeant. He was a Business Administration major, on the Sphnix staff his senior year, had a Westminister Fellowship, was a Senior Class Board of Directors, and in the Flying Club- 3,2,1.
